Latency in midi connection?

Hello,
My problem is that it seems to me that there is latency when the note information goes from keyboard to PC.
This harms when I'm using piano teaching software (Miracle teaching system, I know it's old) and it complain to me that I'm pressing note too late. But I'm SURE that I press the note just right time. Now I think this originate from that latency because when I press some note from the keyboard, the sound from the PC's speakers comes little late. Now folks, is this really a problem and what is solution to it?
My keyboard is Casio CTK-471, OS is Win XP, soundcard is AC-97 integrated to motherboard.
