Yamaha MU50 (How do I...)

Hi, if this is not the right place to ask this, my apologies.
I just bought a MU50 off of ebay and am generally happy with it for what it is, but the manual is not a whole lot of help.
If anyone has one, here are a couple of (I hope) simple questions:
Is it possible to copy sounds from the XG area into the performance (user) area? For example, I'd like to group all of my favorite patches/instruments together sequentially.
And - I have not been able to successfully modify any of the effects on any of the existing patches. For example, I'd like to add some tremelo on one of the electric piano patches. I can get to a screen that allows me to turn on the tremelo, but it never seems to actually take effect. Any suggestions as to what I'm missing?
Thanks for any suggestions, or any links to web sites with tips & tricks (If there are any, I haven't been able to find them yet...)
