You need a 2x2 MIDI interface, so you can control both devices separately.
If you don't want to buy an interface, you have to rewire the system for playback.
Instead of the drum machine's MIDI OUT, connect the keyboard to the MIDI THRU
(if available). This is only for playback, you'll have to use the MIDI OUT whenever
you want to drive the synth with the drum machine.
The Midisport 2x2 would be an excellent choice for your setup, it would play and record
both devices, no cable-switching required. It also has a THRU button, so you can use

: I set up my drum machine and keyboard together with MIDI, the drum machine as controller and the synth as slave. I want to record them individually then play them back synced. But when I play them, the keyboard is either completely silent, or the synth parts on the drum machine use the patches off of the keyboard. I set the MIDI OUT and MIDI IN correctly, and the clocks are set to INT and EXT correctly, but I can't get the keyboard to play at all. What am I doing wrong?
