Music quest 8port/SE under win 98SE

I am trying to install an 8port under win 98SE. I have downloaded driver 1.62.
Problem1: the driver details says it's version 1.3. Is this correct, or is the 1.62 zip file I found corrupt?
Problem 2:when trying to open a program that uses the midi inputs (like Logic), I get an error message:
Unable to unlock input memory header"
Midi output works fine, the diag program that comes with the driver reports ok, and the patch program works fine retrieving and storing programs.
What about the parallell port settings. Should it be set to Normal, ECP, EPP or bidirectional in the bios?
