I'm not sure on this one, but if your using external gear and the computer, and the sounds are from the external gear, and you are only using the sound card and the software for sequencing and editing and such, then maybe you get a delay b/c the midi cables are too long. I was told they should only be 20ft. total or you might have problems like with timing. That means 20ft from controller to computer to whatever other gear it goes out to. 20ft is the total chain length. Though usually problems happen when it's like 40ft. of Midi cable.
thought that might help? try contactin manufacturer if you don't figure it out.

: I am so happy (sort of) to see that I'm not the only one with this midi delay issue. I'm running Windows XP home version on a P4 Dell desktop system. My soundcard/ midi interface is the old 20 bit Layla soundcard by Echo. My synth is a Roland XV 5080 and I'm using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. Needless to say, all of this gear is decent, professional quality stuff and the problems I'm having are driving me crazy, so if we can figure it out: GREAT.
: As you were suggesting, the midi delay amount seems to drift between almost none to almost an entire measure and anywhere in between. I think I've adjusted every buffer and delay setting there is from the Sysex data to audio buffering and the problem persists. I know that Windows XP deals with audio (WDM) in a different way than previous versions, but the irony is that I'm not having any audio problems; only midi. Of course, I do most of my professional work in the midi domain so this is a totally unsatisfactory situation for me too.
: I was seriously considering going to another midi interface, thinking that was the problem, but if other cards/ interfaces/ software/ synths are having the same problem, than I don't know what to do.
: Any help or info would be extremely welcome.
: Thanks
