The Audigy line of cards Creative will soon be putting out will have a 4x faster processor than the Live family, so the latency is drasticalley reduced. Please also note that with a soft synth, hardware accelleration does play a small part (depending on the software), but your CPU speed may be the biggest bottleneck. However, a softsynth does NOT even take full advantage of the Live's MIDI capabilites in the first place. Try using a SoundFount 2.1 compatible soundfont set, which may indeed sound better and will definately have lower latency.
