Saving and Playing Midi files

In the last three months, my windows media player freezes when I select a midi on the web to play. It blows up and covers the whole web and does not play, of course. It does play midis on my harddrive files. Also, I cannot download midi files to my harddrive files. They "cannot be found". Quick time does play midis on the web, however, I still cannot load midis from the web to my harddrive files. I have tried everything, and checked everything.
