: : : I'm an idiot and looking for help. I have an Alesis QS 6.1 and trying to connect to Pent 133, Win 95, Cakewalk pro audio. My two serial ports are in use and I want to know if I can use the MPU-401 port on the soundcard for MIDI connection. The keyboard is set to GM MULTI / Gen MIDI and it's enabled. Been trying to make it work for a while.... any help is appreciated.

: : You need a Soundcard MIDI Adapter Cable (if you don't have one, click on the MIDI-Store banner on the left).
: : Connect one end of the cable to your sound card game port, and the other to your QS MIDI IN and OUT ports.
: : Check your Windows Control Panel / Multimedia Settings, see if SB MIDI is installed.
: : Select SB MIDI (or MPU-401) in Cakewalk MIDI I/O settings, and it should work.

: Thanks for the response Les,
: ...but that's where I got stumped. I'm wondering if I have some port conflicts, so I'm going back in.
: Once again I really appreciate the help, and if you've got any other ideas they are always welcome.

I use my SB card to control a line6 pod and the midi will not work if there is a joystick in use on the 15 pin midi/game port. I dont know why my, midi cabel was made to breakout the midi signals and pass the joystick stuff through but i guess their mammas didnt teach them to share.
