: Our church has purchased a Souncraft K2 40 input audio console with support for MIDI control of 128 programmable mute scenes. We have a PC sitting next to the audio console which, to date, has never been used as a MIDI device.
: What PC software do I need to use the computer to "capture" the mute scenes generated by the sound console, then, under operator control, send those scenes from the PC back to the console?
: Also, is there any particular MIDI hardware interface you'd recommend for the PC to accomplish this job?

I would recommend Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. It will do an excellent job for all your MIDI and audio needs. It's highly customizable, you can create
a similar layout on screen to control your MIDI devices.
As for interface, check out the Roland UM-1 or the MIDISPORT 2x2 (depending on how many MIDI ports you need).
You can find more info about the above, plus many other options at midi-store.com (click on the blinking banner on the left).
If you have any questions, they will be happy to help you out.
