: Hello, I am a drummer/percussionist who is trying to venture into the realm of MIDI. I recently bought an Alesis QS 6.1 under the belief that the Emagic Micrologic AV software program was fully capable of sequenicng 16 tracks using any of the sounds in the Alesis. So far, I have only been able to record single grand piano tracks. No other tracks I record ever seem to playback on my synth. Much of the time, even the piano track does not play back. Also, I can only find the general MIDI sounds in the Emajic program. How do I make it recognize all 5 program banks in the QS? Also, is there better software than Emagic? I'm wanting to hear any previous tracks while recording additional ones.
: Thanks

I would recommend Cakewalk for sequencing with the QS. You can download the instrument definitons from this site, just go to the QS Pages. Once you have Cakewalk and the definitions, you can access all banks and patches, and use as many tracks as you can handle. Record and playback at the same time, edit your sequences any way you want. I've been using Cakewalk since version 2.0 (now they passed version 9) and I'm perfectly happy with it. For the best prices on both the Home Studio or the Pro version of Cakewalk just click on the blue MIDI-STORE button on the left side of this page, then go to Software, and you'll find them.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Les
