Am I the only one who finds supermarket music annoying? What's wrong with silence? Do we have to listen to something all the time? And who picks the tunes? The same sticky pop music that stays with you long after you leave. Why not good music for a change? What do you think?

There are two kinds of people and they are the following three:
1. People who like all kinds of music all the time
2. People who can easily ignore noise
3. People who prefer silence to involuntary music
4. People who don't mind background music as long as it's good

My first choice would be not having to listen to the music selection of most supermarkets and other stores.
If silence is not an option, they should hire someone to pick better tunes, classical music would be fine.
I find it most annoying that the pop-tunes stick in your head and stay with you for a long time.

Is this not an age thing?

I am past seventy and boy do I hate the *&%^£$+~# Music or jingles or What on Earth do They Call IT when they read the News, or in documentaries when someone is talking.
As for Disorderly Conduct as the program is called !.
The Police car is wailing down the highway the Cop is telling us what is (obviously) happening and there is a whatsname HeavyMetal/Rock Band playing over it all.
Then to make sure they are really doing your head in, they repeat the animated crash sequencies at the end of the scene B4 moving to the next gripping(?) chase.
As for commentators, dont they talk a load of tosh? and why do we have two ?, its enough listening to one EXPERT(?).
Why do we have a sinister deep sounding voice to introduce a Spooky(?) load of claptrap? called Haunted and yes you guessed it they have to have an amplified Heart-sound pounding away in the background.

it depends..
sometimes we want silence at the moment...
and sometimes we play songs as our background music in everything that we do..!
all this is depends on our moods and want in that particular moment of time..! Smile

I don't like listening t radios in the supermarket. Peace and quiet is nice also but alas there are many people who prefer listening to music while shopping to get in the mood and avoid boredom.

How would you consider John Cage 4'33'' as supermarket music

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUJagb7hL0E

I personally quite enjoy supermarket music, the ones I go to are up to date catchy tunes

And if people think of starting a discussion on reaction to above whether silence is music or not Laughing
I obtained the link of 4'33'' on http://relentlessenergy.com/historyofsilence. An article that describes how silence has been perceived through the years. very entertaining!

It depends on the user choice that music is a noise for him or not. In the shopping mall it is that the music is played that is different in different times. So it depends on the public demands.
