Please help me. I'm playing midi files in winamp. My problem is that the volume of each midi goes up and I have to keep opening the volume control to get to the sw synth. I have to keep the volume slider screen open as I have to adjust the volume for each song. I have to stay in my pc for every song as people around me are annoyed when each midi comes out loud and so I have to be with my pc to adjust each and every midi song How come I can do this with the wave volume control but not with the sw synth. My soundcard is integrated to my Dell system. It is called the SoundMX Digital Audio. I'm happy with winamp as it plays all types of files. Please advise me how to save the sw synth like the wave files so it stays at a level that is not too loud. thanks a lot.

it is in the nature of midi files to have various levels of "loudness" since a lot of people made them. more so if you got them from the internet. just like mp3's that float around and when played in a winamp playlist will play in different volumes.

usually midi files are made to be played by hardware midi devices but can also be played by software. examples are vst/dxi software synthesizers and also the built-in microsoft GS synth built into their windows software and also midi soundsets that come with soundcards or like your winamp midi player.

the solution is to edit the volume levels of each midi track in a MIDI editor (sequencer software) which can be quite tedious. or you can just "record" the midifile into a wavefile or mp3 if possible and then edit each audio file.
there are freeware applications like audacity or similar ones. you might have to configure some soundcard settings though.
