the novation has both usb midi and midi out ports. so its a case of assigning one or the other in sonar's midi input settings.

if you can see that red indicator near the windows tray bar is, and there is activity while you play the keyboard then midi is definitely going into sonar.

Per my above reply, I am using the Novation Midi/In ports. Do have experience with Sonar? Do you know how exactly to assign these devices, and how to get the devices to become detected? I apologize for my ignorance here, I am desperately trying to get everything down so I can start interfacing these devices. I really appreciate your help.
Subject: More Info
Posted: Wed Nov 18, 2009 10:55 pm (GMT -5)

Here is my set-up. I am trying to use this hardware with any/all software components that Sonar 8 Producer 8.3 has. I posted this information along with the original post into the Sonar Producer general forum section. Hope this helps:

My MPC 2500 is running MIDI IN (1) plug into the M audio 2496 MIDI plug in (one of the two wires coming from this sound card), and the MIDI OUT (A) likewise is running into the other MIDI plug in of the 2496.

My novation keyboard is running its MIDI OUT into the MPC's MIDI IN (2), and its MIDI IN into the MPC's MIDI OUT (B).

I believe there are some things I need to do to run the MPC as the slave, and the keyboard as the master, or vice versa. Also, I'm positive that there are some adjustments/settings that need to be changed in Sonar to have the software correlate with the MIDI hardware. Again, apologies for my ignorance. I am very eager to get this hardware running smoothly with Sonar. Hope this info helps. This is a good pic of my sound card (so you can see the MIDI connection into it accordingly):

Subject: How to convert itunes music to mp3 other mp3 players
Posted: Sun Nov 15, 2009 10:14 pm (GMT -5)

As the most popular online music store iTunes has millions of customers which download thousands of music every second.
M4P – a copyright protected iTunes format of "protected AAC". It is a format of downloaded music from iTunes store that can be listened to only through the iTunes compatible players like iPod.
So, if you want to listen to iTunes music with other mp3 players such as Zune, Creative Zen, cell phone and play itune music on windows media player, window movie maker or share them with your friends, you have to convert M4P to MP3.

Now, we can convert M4P to MP3 with two methods.

1.Burning and re-import.
2.Convert M4P to MP3 with a Professional Protected Music Converter

Solution 1: M4P->CD-> MP3
To convert M4P to MP3, you can burn M4P onto a CD (using the iTunes CD burning option), then re-import the CD as unprotected MP3 into the iTunes library.
1. Buy songs on iTunes.
2. Insert a blank CD. (You'd better use a rewrite CD which can be used circularly and use some software like Nero to wipe off the music files you have processed.)
Note: You need to change iTunes settings in "Edit"->" Preferences" before burn and import.
Follow the picture instructions below:

3. Go to File->Create a New Playlist

4. Drag and Drop files you want from your library to the New Playlist.
5. Right-click playlist and select "Burn Playlist to Disc" or you can left- click "Burn Disc"
6.After conversion, left-click “import CD” to import CD files to iTunes library as MP3 format.
(And you can find the unprotected MP3 file by the side of the original file in > "My Document" > "My music" > "iTunes".)

Solution 2: Convert M4P to MP3 directly
Daniusoft Digital Music Converter can convert M4P to MP3 with one step and the speed is up to 27x. It also can convert protected WMA to MP3, WAV, WMA, OGG and various file formats on Windows PC.

Simple steps to convert M4P to MP3:
1. Add iTunes M4P and other protected files.
2. Choose "MP3" as the output format
3. Pressthe "Start" button.
Now you can own the music forever and play it on your mp3 player, cell phone, windows media player and other portable players without restriction
Hello all

I am new to the forum and after searching the forums to prevent being redundant, I couldn't find anything that applies to my problem. I apologize in advance if this post comes as a repeat.

I just recently did a little upgrading with my hardware, and I'm having a little trouble interfacing my Midi devices with Sonar. Note my CPU set-up is a little behind the times as I just got back from Italy and I'm in the process of upgrading and such. Here is my set-up:

-HP Desktop PC with Windows Vista (32 bit...I know...it's temporary, though)
-Sonar 8 Producer with all the available updates installed
-Audiophile 2496 sound card
-Behringer 1832FX mixer
-Two KRK studio monitors
-Novation Remote 25SL Compact Keyboard
-Akai MPC 2500

Everything in itself works fine; sound works fine with my monitors/sound, Sonar runs well, and the MPC and Keyboard work great via the mixer/sound card. My problem is trying to get the two MIDI devices to interface with Sonar. I have the MPC running to the sound card Midi in/out, and the keyboard is running into the MPC's MIDI inputs/outputs. The actual audio from the two devices are running with RCAs directly to the mixer. I read online, read the manual for Sonar and the MPC, and I've been able to make Sonar detect the Midi connection, I am just no able to use the devices with Sonar as far as recording and such. So with that being said, I know the connections are working fine with the sound card and there is no sound issues with either of the instruments.

Is it possible that I do not have the MIDI devices connected properly? Maybe there is some internal options with the MPC and such that need to be adjusted accordingly. I was very apprehensive about posting these questions. Like I said- I've been working on this for some time and I do not want to make a duplicate post. I know this is somewhat of a broad series of questions, too, so if there is any specific details lacking here please let me know and I will provide them. Hopefully this will help out some other ignorant folks having the same issue.

Thanks a lot for the help!
Just follow this to save your money.

1. Download and launch iSkysoft iPhone Ringtone Maker.

iSkysoft iPhone Ringtone maker is a simple but powerful AAC to M4R converter ,You can download this m4r converter form iSkysoft.com,mediasoftmac.com or apple.com.

2. Input AAC music file

You can choose the AAC which you want to convert to m4r, and drag the AAC file to the software directly. You can also input AAC files in iTunes library from the left category.

By this way you can convert purchased AAC music from iTunes Store to m4r as your iphone ringtone for free.

3. Trim aac to m4r iPhone Ringtone

Drag and drop the slide bar to appoint the start point and end point for the m4r iPhone ringtone length. Alternatively, you can type exact time value into time-setting box. You can choose to preview the whole YouTube audio or video or just the trimmed part. In this way, you can trim 30s of the aac to m4r iPhone ringtone.

Tips:
You can enlarge the waveform to make more specific trim.

4. Start to Convert aac Music to m4r iPhone Ringtone

After trimming aac file, click Start button to AAC to M4R converter file. The trimmed aac music would be converted into M4R ringtone and saved on ringtone category of your iTunes.

Hello,
Just a quick question:
I need to control a rack mount synth/sequencer from a keyboard and slave it at the same time to a Roland VS1824. I've had no problems with the latter but it only has one 'in' so I can't control at same time...
Would something like a midisport 2x2 do the trick? In from the keyboard controller and multitrack and out to the synth sequencer?
Any help is appreciated.
thank you
Hello, im having a tough time trying to figure out how to change note #,s
on a Yamaha DTXpress3 drum pads... im using Reason 4 with the
Jason Mcgerr refill. when playing the pads all is fine except when i play the tom pads i get a flam, thats one of the sounds on the library.
On the keyboard F is a single hit tom, G is a flam, A is a single hit tom, &
B is a flam. So on the pads im only getting the G & the B sounds, but i want
the F & the A sounds when i hit the pads... i hope i explained this so you can
Yamaha equipment, in the main, and certainly anything made from the mid-nineties on, needs three commands to be set up in the "list view" with at least a "tick" between each one. The first is known as a "bank select" MSB (most significant byte), then a "bank select" LSB (least significant byte), then the program change message that selects the actual instrument sound that you require. All this information must go at the start of the file, in each sequencer track before the music.

You should find an instrument list in the MIDI section of the user manual, if you look at page 74 and onwards.

Cubase is not the easiest of sequencers to get to grips with for a beginner. In fact, even for those with some experience of MIDI sequencing (since Atari days ), it takes a while to get used to the interface. The only answer is perseverance, I'm afraid, as well as the usual RTFM.

Good luck,
SysExJohn.
the korg must be in combination mode (8 programs in 1 patch)

use one program to be played by the korg keyboard itself.

select another program (the hammond patch) but assign it another midi channel so that it wont be trigerred by the korg keyboard.

set the alessis to transmit midi on the channel you have chosen for the hammond patch. make sure to lower the level of the alessis keyboard so that you can check if you can listen to see if you have done this properly. also you may layer an additional patch on the alessis for a thicker sound.
consult the user manuals for more information on how to do this.
I like this site: www.midisite.co.uk

Just remember you get what you pay for. I usually make my own from scratch, but have occasionally had luck downloading other files and playing with them to get thenm to sound right. To separate midi channels from each other that are on the same track, try this:

1. Copy the track fifteen times (so there are 16 identical tracks)
2. Filter each track (Cubase has a great logical edit for this) to delete all events that are not on the same cahnnel as the track number
3. This will delete all events on Track 1 that are not on channel one, all events on track 2 that are not on channel 2, etc.
4. Delete any track that now has no data on it (there was obviously nothing on that channel number to begin with)
5. You will now have separated tracks by channel number.

Hope this is what you were after. Let me know if you need further help on this.

Buying software is like buying cars. There are many items that will work fine - TEST DRIVE FIRST! Ive been sequencing for 26 years, and have gone through 2 versions of Cakewalk, 4 versions of Cubase, and 2 versions of Ableton. They are all good, but you get what you pay for. I currently use Cubase 5 for seqeuncing, and Ableton Live 7 & 8 for live playback of same. These 2 packages are the best Ive ever used for these two aspects. There are always those who will argue Sonar, Pro Tools or something else is better, but you can do 99.99% of all the things you will ever need with either one, and it is pointless to get in a 'I use better software than you' debate. Check price, learning curve, availability of plug ins, etc before deciding. Playing with demo versions will tell you more than I ever could about what will work for you.

Same here. I you send me the .mid file, I can tell a great deal more. It might be getting transposed somewhere in the chain, or playing back a different drum map or patch than you specified. Cant tell without looking at it.

Have you tried playing back an existing sequence with this software/interface/keyboard combination to verify that they work together? I Use Cubase SX 2 and Cubase 5, but not CSX3. Is there any chance your ppq is set too low? I record at 480, but I think Cubase can set that considerably lower.

For these to be available, somebody has got to step up and take the time to do it in the first place. How is your ear? Can you hear a melody or a chord and know what it is? If so, you can do these yourself, given a little time and dedication. I have been sequencing for 26 years professionally, and know first hand how time-intensive it is. I don't know where you would get these files offhand. I would be able to do them (they sound simple), but I would need to be paid for it (sorry!) as this is my livelihood, and the 8-10 hours required to do it is significant to me. Do you have something to offer in trade?

	Subject: Cubase Program Changes
Posted: Sat Nov 07, 2009 3:29 pm (GMT -5)

Cubase can be set up to record patch changes. For this to work, the Yamaha (which I am unfamiliar with) must transmit the patch change in the first place. Alternatively, open the recorded track in Cubase using the List Edit, and insert a patch change, which you can then manually change to be whatever program on the yamaha you want the sound to play. Let m eknow how this works out. I can't be more specific on exactly how to access the functions I named here without knowing your version of Cubase. I am fluent in Cubase GS, Cubase VST, Cubase SX2, and Cubase 5. Let me know.
